Research

The Citizen Report Card from 120 Niger Delta Communities was issued by NIDPRODEV in January 2011. It is composed of data collected between August and December 2010 from 9,018 adults (478 focus groups from 13 Local Government Areas in 6 states across the 3 geopolitical zones of the Niger Delta). The project was sponsored by the European Union. The report provides state-to-state, local government-to-local government, and community-to-community comparisons of information related to public services, good governance, and infrastructure development. Significant community-level information also is disaggregated by gender and generation.

The first quarterly Citizen Report Card from the Niger Delta was issued by NIDPRODEV in March 2010 and is based on survey data from 10 oil-hosting communities in Delta and Bayelsa states. The report provides community-level statistics and opinions on the performance of oil companies and all tiers of government in the provision of public services, good governance, and infrastructure/development in the region.

Funded by the United States Institute of Peace, this report is intended to allow oil revenue and development stakeholders to measure their effectiveness and to encourage transparent and accountable behavior related to oil revenue expenditures. As a participatory evaluation and advocacy tool, the report improves community knowledge and stimulates dialogue and socially inclusive participation in community decisionmaking about development.
